Rhinoplasty

Esthetic nose operations to fix the nose are one of the most performed operations worldwide. With rhinoplasty, the nose can easily be shaped but it is important that it matches the rest of the facial structures. The facial profile must be taken into consideration when a rhinoplasty surgery is being planned. The nose-forehead connection area, nose length, nose height, the distance between the nose and lips, the chin being outward or inward; all of these effect the success of the operation. Because of this, rhinoplasty should not only be considered as a nose operation, but also a profile plasty. After a successful operation, people who knew the patient before may not understand in which way they look different although an apparent nose change has been made. “Something is different with you, but what?” types of questions may also be asked. An esthetic that is coherent with the facial structures may not be realized.

Stimulation performed before surgery (forming of the new shape expected in the computer environment) is the doctor’s new way of projecting. Simulation actually determines the patient’s expectation. With simulation, the structure will be formed alike, but it cannot be expected to be exactly the same. The real image will appear more natural. With this operation, it’s possible to reduce the size of the nose, to take out the bulge from the nose, to shape the tip of the nose, to fix the angle between the upper lip and nose, and to reduce the size of the nostrils.

Open rhinoplasty? Closed rhinoplasty? Closed rhinoplasty is from inside, open technique is performed by cutting open the middle front of the nose. Both techniques are used worldwide. However, close and large appearance can be provided to the surgical area on the open rhinoplasty with a speculum (tong that shows the inside the nose) that has a cold light and L separator.

Because of this, of the surgeon can perform the rhinoplasty with closed technique the way he desires, an additional extra mark on the front of the nose, which is not formed, is a big advantage.

In rhinoplasty surgeries, it is beneficial to use gels and creams which consist of Vitamin K in order to decrease the possibilities of bruises and swelling. Staying in the hospital duration is one day. The operation is performed under general anesthesia (by putting to sleep) and lasts about 2-2.5 hours. The tampons placed in the nose are removed after 1-2 days. Nose tampons may not be placed. A nasal tampon is also the dressing for the wounded area inside of the nose because the surgery is performed from the inside of the nose, a dressing is needed to be made to whichever wounded area. If a tampon were not inserted in the nose, discharge and swelling would be formed in the nose, which makes it hard to breath and will completely prevent the ability to breathe. A corrugated tampon and a silicon nasal tampon provide breathing from the nose along with the effect of the tampon.

The nose plaster is removed after a week and a band or a small plaster is used if necessary for determination. In 10-14 days, all the bruises will recover and after 3 weeks most of the edema will recover as well. After 1.5 months, the nose will take its new shape but the noses settlement will continue rapidly up to 6 months, and after two years the nose will heal completely.

Esthetic nose operations are performed after the noses 90% growth, which is after the ages 16-17.

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, and deviation in the middle division of the nose (deviated septum) is fixed.

The operation takes 2 hours. Sleeping in the hospital is 1 day. Tampons placed in the nose are removed after 1-2 days. The plaster placed on top of the nose is removed after 7 days or a small plaster is used if necessary for determination. Bruises and edema around the eyes and nose after will decrease after 3 days of surgery. It takes 2 weeks for bruises to get better and 1-1.5 months for the swelling of the nose to go down.
