Lower Eyelid Esthetic

The lower eyelid esthetic operation is called blepharoplasty. Extra skin on the lower eyelid, bags under the eyes, there may be looseness on the lid and hollowness. The face looking aged has a lot to do with the lower eyelid. It is possible to look approximately 10 years younger with a well-performed lower eyelid operation in patients with proper upper eyelids.

If there is little extra skin, gathering of the skin can be achieved with laser or peeling practices. If extra skin is not present, but there are bags, the eyelid is operated by entering through the inner part of the eyelid. If there is noticeable extra skin or looseness, the eyelid is operated from the middle of the eyelid from the outer part of the eyelashes with the incision performed from the roots of the eyelashes. The skin may be removed thinly after entering through the incision area and the extra part is incised by removing together with the muscle underneath. If there is looseness underneath the lower eyelid, it is fixed to member bone (tarsorrhapphy).

Bagging underneath the lower eyelid can be performed from the inner part of the eyelid. Generally, hollowness is observed under the bagging part. The reason of the hollowness is due to the emptiness formed by the soft tissue that has sagged downward because of gravitation. Soft tissues sagging downward can be pulled upward and sagging fatty tissues can be pulled upward and emptiness can be filled in.

Operation is performed under general anesthesia. Patient will stay in the hospital for 1 day. Upper and lower eyelid operations are performed in approximately 2 hours. Stitches are removed in 3-5 days. Bruises and swelling decrease in 1-2 weeks.
